Our Young Archaeologists' Club (YAC) is back with an exciting new term of hands-on sessions!
Join community archaeologist Alexis and uncover some of the long and layered history of Fulham Palace. Young Archaeologists' Club is suitable for young people ages 8 - 16 years old and attends independently.
Schedule:
16 March - Animal bones
What can we learn from animal bones? Together we’ll explore what the bones left behind in history can tell us about the past.
27 April – Planning and section drawing
How do archaeologists record what they find? In this session, we will be learning how archaeologists create technical drawings to specific scales and how they record the correct height of archaeological features and deposits above sea level.
25 May – Heraldry
Have you seen coats of arms at Fulham Palace? Together, we’ll be looking at the significance of heraldry and spotting coats of arms across the site. After, make your own coat of arms using your family history.
22 June – Foreshore walk
Join the annual walk along the Thames foreshore! We’ll stroll along the stretch of foreshore from Bishop’s Park to Putney Bridge. Low tide is at 10.30, so this session will be an early start at 9.30 and finish at 11.15.
20 July – Excursion to South London Botanical Institute
What is environmental archaeology and why is it important? On this trip, we’ll explore the importance of plants throughout history and what they can tell us about the environmental landscape of the past.
28 September – Neolithic burial chambers
What is a Neolithic burial chamber? Let’s find out! We’ll discover what they are and have a go at creating our own prehistoric burial chambers.
26 October – Halloween
We’re celebrating the spooky season with a special Halloween-themed session. Together we’ll be making witching bottles, carving traditional turnips and mummifying objects!
