Tudor Courtyard mug

£5.00
1

This mug is decorated with a watercolour of the west quadrangle of Fulham Palace by Augustus Hare painted around 1900 and acquired by the Museum in 2002. Augustus Hare (1834 to 1903) was an author and raconteur.  His entry for 7 July 1876 in his Story of My Life reads “Went by water to …Fulham.  It was a gloriously hot day, and very pleasant sitting under the old gateway looking into the sunlit court, with full light on the rich decorations of the brickwork and the massy creepers”.
